Deland, Fla. (WFLA) – The suspect in a drug sales investigation in Volsia County made a brave effort to avoid police but fell a bit short.
Law enforcement was running a search warrant at a home in Remaining Lane in Deland when one of the suspects, 35-year-old James Burges, was seen leaving the scene by the vehicle before being stopped by SWAT.
Detectives discovered “trafficking amounts” of fentanyl, cocaine, pills and loaded firearms inside the vehicle, the Volusia Sheriff’s Office said.
While Burgis was arrested, his girlfriend, 34-year-old Nicole Wort, escaped with her brother on an electric scooter.
The helicopter video shows two riding tandems from the scene before being leaked and arrested by law enforcement.
Welt was charged with selling and delivering fentanyl. Her brother has not been charged at this time.
Burgis is held unconfined by armed human trafficking in fentanyl, possession of firearms by a convicted felon, possession of cocaine for intent to sell, possession of alprazolam and possession of drug paraphernalia, and borrowing structures for drug sales.
