FORT PIERCE, Fla. (WFLA) — A truck driver is charged with vehicle murder after a crash in Fort Pierce, which killed three people.
On Tuesday, August 12th, Harjinder Singh was driving a semi-truck on the Florida Turnpike in St. Lucie County, Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles said.

NBC’s affiliate WPTV reported that the semi-truck was in the right lane and the Chrysler minivan was in the left lane. The pass did not include a U-turn sign saying “official use only.” Similar routes can be found statewide and are intended for use only with emergency vehicles.
When the truck attempted a turn it crossed directly onto the minivan road. It was unable to slow down in time and was a wedge under the truck.

Crush closed all northbound lanes of the Florida Turnpike for several hours as the first responders worked to drive people trapped from the minivan and clear the area of debris.
Two passengers died at the scene, and the driver was taken to a nearby hospital, where they later died of injuries.
The minivan driver was identified as a 30-year-old Florida city man, and the two passengers were identified as a 37-year-old Pompano Beach woman and a 54-year-old Miami man. According to a report from WPTV, the semi-truck driver and his passengers were not injured.
FLHSMV said investigators later learned that semi-truck driver Singh had illegally entered the US when he crossed the Mexican border. He then obtained a commercial driver’s license in California, the department said in a press release on Saturday.
Singh has been charged with three counts of vehicle murder and is being held in Ice Detainer, FLHSMV said.
“The actions the defendant took while operating the commercial tractor trailer are both shocking and criminal,” said Dave Kerner, director of FLHSMV. “As a result of his recklessness, three will lose their lives, and countless friends and family will experience the pain of loss forever.”
