Tanqueray’s Bar & Grill, a downtown Orlando bastion that opened in 1989, will close on New Year’s Eve due to city regulations and a non-renewal of its lease.
“The city has not been kind to local bars in the downtown entertainment district since 2023,” the nightclub posted on its Facebook page over the weekend. In addition to this, the decision was also influenced by the building owner’s decision not to renew the lease.
Club owner Dan Charles said he would have turned 70 on New Year’s Eve.
“And after 49 years in the hospitality industry, it feels like the stars are aligning for retirement… I’m humbled by the patronage our ‘regulars’ have participated in over the years, along with all the great local musicians who have performed at our venue.” Thanks to your continued support, Tanq’s has become an exceptional live music destination over the years. ”
It’s the latest in a series of closures in the downtown entertainment district, many of which are due to restrictions.
Charles widely invited guests to join in the countdown to the end of the year and the club’s long and successful final New Year’s Eve event.
With the explosion of specialty drinks, are there no longer people who only drink coffee?
“I will miss you all and I wish you all a happy, successful and happy future ahead,” Charles wrote on Facebook. “To our employees, we cannot thank you enough for the work you have done, the support you have provided, and your continued service to our patrons. You are the best staff an owner could ever ask for. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors.”
