FORT MYERS, Fla. (WFLA) – A man is faced with charges after Fort Myers police say they shot a neighbor, a two-year-old pit bull, and injured a dog to the point that they had to be euthanized.
According to the Fort Myers Police Department, 33-year-old Merci-Dieu Ferd Ferd Frenot was arrested and charged with aggravated animal cruelty following the May 15 incident, causing excessive pain or death.

NBC affiliate WBBH spoke with Kenneth Baker, the owner of the dog who claimed his pet was not a threat.
“The dogs are good. If you treat them well, they’re pretty good,” Baker said, adding that his dogs made him pet or “walking him.”
Victor was in the yard when Frenott’s mother walked by Thursday. The dog started barking, and that’s when things went south.
Frenott told police that he heard her mother scream and grabbed a gun and came across the neighbor’s yard, fearing her safety.
“He got the gun, you ran over here and ‘You bothered my mom!” Bam Bam Bam Bam Bam,” Baker said.
Officials said Frenott shot Victor at least four times. They found the injured dog about two blocks away near the seriously injured Marsh Avenue. He was taken to a colonial veterinary officer, but had to be euthanized.
Frenott’s mother confirmed with police that the dog was not attacking her. Baker recalls hearing her complaint to her son and saying, “Don’t do that, don’t do that.”
Frenot’s bonds were set at $50,000 and posted the bonds late Friday afternoon. He was also ordered to abandon all firearms and to leave the victims and their homes.
