FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WFLA) – Authorities said Thursday it has identified two teenagers whose bodies were found on the landing gear on a JetBlue plane earlier this year.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office told WPLG that after “a wide range of DNA testing,” the victims were identified as Jake Anilzurusi, 18, and 16-year-old Elvis Volques Castillo.
A JetBlue spokesperson said the body was previously found on Jan. 6 in the plane’s landing gear compartment during “regular post-flight maintenance inspections.”
United Airlines flights make emergency landings due to fire after departing from Florida
Flight data shows that the aircraft had a busy schedule. I flew from Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic to JFK Airport in New York on Sunday. They then flew the route between Jamaica in New York and Salt Lake City, Utah, before finishing in South Florida.
Aviation lawyer and pilot John Galliano told CBS News Miami that the under-plane structure is one of the most deadly places people can try to store.
“It’s very loud,” Galliano told the news station. “It’s very cold and there’s no air to breathe, so pulling is a very dangerous stunt.”
“This is a heartbreaking situation and we are committed to working closely with the authorities to help us with efforts to understand how this happened,” Jetblue Corporate Communications said.
According to WPLG, the cause of death of the victim has not been released yet. The sheriff’s office told the news station that autopsies were conducted on both victims.
