Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) warned Monday that the formation of a third party for Elon Musk would weaken Republican predictions in the mid-term elections.
A few weeks after President Trump spent credit rollbacks on taxes and mega-building electric vehicles and spending increased government bonds, Tech Giant announced on Saturday it had launched the “American Party.”
“The problem is, when you do another party, especially if you’re running some of the issues he’s talking about, that’s what you know. If he funds Senate and housing candidates with a competitive race, that would probably mean Democrats will win all the competitive senators and house races.”
The Florida governor praised Musk for cutting government spending through his work at Government Efficiency (DOGE), but suggested that the creation of third parties has gone too far.
“We’ve had problems with these D.C. lawmakers in the Republican Party. They’re always running saying there’s out of control spending, they’re going to spend less and they’re never going to do that,” Desantis said.
“I think there’s a lot of frustration with the gap between their district rhetoric and performance once they enter DC, but your way of doing it exposes it on the primary, indicating that there’s another way,” he added.
Trump’s loyalty, including Steve Bannon, denounced masks, comparable to the GOP.
But Musk argued it was time for “for a new political party that actually cares about people.”
But one long-time third-party leader said it’s not easy for Musk to build steam before 2026, when the early parties were aiming to drive candidates into the midterm campaign.
“A lot of people tried to build new political parties, most failed,” Maurice Mitchell, national director of the Working Family Party, said in a statement to the Hill.
“If you think that the mask will waving his cane and a party will appear, he’s for a rude awakening,” he added.
