TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WFLA) — Gov. Ron DeSantis warned of the possibility of snowfall this week amid subzero temperatures affecting northern Florida.

The governor delivered remarks Tuesday morning from the State Emergency Operations Center, warning Floridians of severe winter weather Tuesday through Wednesday.

Gov. Ron DeSantis declares state of emergency for upcoming winter weather system

He said Florida could experience record-breaking weather for the next two days.

He said 2 to 4 inches of snow could fall in North Florida. If you live in the Northeast, be prepared for ice and snow warnings.

At 1 p.m. Tuesday, all non-essential workers will be laid off for the day, and state offices will be closed Wednesday due to winter weather.

Residents should dress in layers to stay warm, keep pets and plants indoors, insulate water pipes to allow taps to drip a little, and use space heaters safely. It is recommended that you do so.

Power outages may occur and some schools may be closed. Floridians are encouraged to check local weather forecasts and emergency management websites for the latest information.

DeSantis also warned of dangerous roads once ice begins to accumulate. Drivers must remain alert or remain on the road at all times.

De-icers on roads, snowplows, and generators on roads are just some of the preparations transportation authorities have made to ensure safety and functionality.

As of Tuesday morning, all airports and flights were operating, but delays and cancellations were already occurring.
