Ocala, Fla. (WFLA) — More than 7,800 recruitment bonuses have been awarded to new law enforcement officials under the Florida Law Enforcement Recruitment Bonus Program, Gov. Ron DeSantis announced.
Desantis was an MCSO who recognized law enforcement by offering bonus checks to 12 recruits. According to Desantis, 700 checks have been mailed to other law enforcement agencies through the program.
The Law Enforcement Recruitment Bonus program launched in 2022 and will offer a $5,000 bonus per bonus to newly hired officers serving in Florida.
“When other states refunded police, demonized law enforcement and took away the criminal justice system, we rewarded law enforcement for their service,” Gov. Ron DeSantis said.
More than 1,700 law enforcement officials from 49 states and two regions have moved to Florida, according to Desantis.
“We have allocated salaries for over 4,700 state law enforcement officers and 730 state firefighters. A 20% increase in entry-level and a 25% increase in veterans,” DeSantis said.
Desantis said more than 7,800 bonuses have been awarded through the Law Enforcement Recruitment Bonus Program.
“Under the leadership of Governor DeSantis, Florida is leading the country by recruiting law enforcement officers and implementing strong immigration policies,” said Florida Secretary of Commerce J. Alex Kelly. “We remain committed to supporting their mission to strengthen the resources available to law enforcement agencies and to set standards for combating illegal immigration.”
