Democrats in Florida are looking for answers on the immigration detention scene

TALHASSEE, Fla. (WFLA) – Florida is pushing for plans to increase immigration detention centers amid the spread of backlash. Gov. Ron DeSantis and President Donald Trump are calling on other states to follow in Florida’s footsteps.

“We want to fill this place,” said Florida Attorney General James Usmieyer. “The governor and Kevin show that they can build a bridge in three days, so why aren’t there a few detention facilities?

Florida’s “Alligator Alcatraz” Detention Center is set to receive its first immigrant group

The first site, Alligator Alcatraz, was set to acquire immigration on Wednesday. The second camp branding is expected to break into the country after July 4th, and now the governor is floating the third site of the Florida Panhandle.
“I want to see them a lot of states, a lot of states, this. I know Ron is doing the second state.

“This facility is something that we want all governors of this country to consider doing with us,” said Christie Noem, secretary to the Department of Homeland Security.

More sites could poll up in the near future from states like Texas, Louisiana and Alabama, but Florida lawmakers are demanding answers from home.

Two letters have been sent to the House and Senate on behalf of Florida Democrats, with the governor, the Attorney General and the Florida Department of Emergency Management pressing the Department of Emergency Management for immigration detention facilities.

Do they want to know that detainees will receive a fair and legal due process? Are there enough staff to monitor, care and guard the centre? What happens when a Hurricane hits? Where do immigrants go from there?

“The public deserves the answer. That’s why we ask as Senate Democrats assurances that these people have their legitimate procedures and respect their constitutional rights. What is the assurance that there are humanitarian conditions in these swamp-based detention camps? Sen. Carlos Guillermo Smith (D-Orlando) said.

8 Your side 8 reached into both rooms at the Capitol building to see if they got answers from the governor’s administration on a list of questions, but so far they have not yet responded.
