JENINGS, LA (KLFY) — An investigation into a crash in Jennings on an I-10 led to the arrest of a woman suspected of stealing goods in several states, authorities said.
Teresa Webster, 56, of Boynton Beach, Fla., is charged with reckless driving, suspected DUI, possession of drug equipment, possession of stolen property and multiple retail thefts.
Jennings police observed a car accident on I-10 on Tuesday, involving a vehicle pulling a trailer. The vehicle pulling the trailer capsized and its residents were temporarily locked in. Residents were removed from vehicles where only minor injuries were reported.
Witnesses said the collision was caused by a second vehicle-led Webster, reportedly driving irregularly before the collision. Webster was detained on the scene and screened for toxicology. The results are pending.
Authorities said the search for Webster’s vehicle determined drug tools and suspected stolen property were suspected. Investigators allegedly linked Webster to theft of tools from Slidell’s Home Depot and theft of a Louis Vuitton handbag worth $1,350 from a department store in Dillard, Alabama.
Surveillance footage from multiple retailers confirmed Webster’s involvement in a series of retail thefts along the I-10 corridors ranging from Florida to Texas, officials said. She has extensive criminal history in four states, including charges related to drug possession and human trafficking, retail theft, fraud and possession of stolen property.
Webster was booked at Jeff Davis Parish Prison on a $12,500 bond.
The investigation is ongoing, police said.
