Merritt Island, Fla. (WFLA) – A Merritt Island man and his family left without a home Wednesday after being installed next to his home and crashed into his roof.
According to NBC affiliate WESH, homeowners Amanda and Jim, ironically with their last name, were fortunately not inside at the time of the incident.
Amanda takes her pet to the vet, but Jim goes outside and sees the crane moving when it collapses, drilling a hole in the front of the house and destroying her son’s bedroom.
Big Iron International, the company that owns the crane, told reporters they were in the neighborhood to replace the utility pole. They said the crane was placed above the water line and collapsed.
They said the waterline collapsed without warning and the crane tilted.
Homeowner Crane said he has lived here for 40 years and is worried that his home will be destroyed.
He told reporters that his insurance company was sending someone to investigate the location and determine whether it was structurally sound and could be rescued. In the meantime, he and his wife will be with friends and family.
