Clearwater’s Coast Guard crew help rescue three sailors on Capchava Island after the boat was turned over and stuck at sea for nine hours.

The family reported concerns at 1am on Sunday after 8pm on Saturday after that sailors had not heard of them. Coast Guard Clearwater Helicopter crews spot three sailors sitting at the top of the boat that capsized around 6am, and the boat crew, along with the Fort Myers Beach coast guard, rescued the boat. We sent them for an emergency medical assessment at Health Park Medical Center. Fort Myers.

According to a Coast Guard news release, the three sailors have not reported any health issues due to being stuck at sea. It is unclear why the boat was turned over.

Dennis Were, chief warrant officer for Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg, said in a news release it is important to have a “float plan” with your loved one before heading out to the sea. Float plans are intended to provide information to people who are not on the boat with an overview of the intended route, the number of people on board, and information on the safety equipment available on the boat.

“Thanks to the rapid coordination of the Coast Guard and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, we were able to find and save three sailors thanks to the use of important search tools,” Vere said.
