LAKE MERY, Fla. (WFLA) – One person was killed in a semi-crashed Tesla parked in the middle lane of Interstate 4 in Lake Mary on Monday night, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The 2020 Tesla Model 3, driven by a 43-year-old Deltona man, stopped in the eastbound lane of Interstate 4, but a 2024 Peterbilt semi-truck approaching a broken vehicle changed lane to avoid a collision.
According to FHP, the 2018 International semi-truck was behind the first semi-truck and changed course to the left in an attempt to avoid Tesla.
The International semi-truck struck the rear of the Tesla, then deviated from the roadway, crashing into a guardrail, and rolled over to the left.
According to FHP, the impact caused the Tesla to deviate from the roadway and hit the rear of a Peterbilt cicada, which initially avoided the vehicle.
The Tesla driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
FHP is working to figure out why Tesla vehicles stopped on Interstate 4.
