CFO urges Congress to grant authority for a deeper insurance investigation

TALHASSEE, Fla. (WFLA) — The Florida House of Representatives led many investigations and selection committees at the 2025 legislative meeting. From diving into property taxes to examining Florida’s concerns, to developing new plans to see the rezoning deeper now, one survey is Floridian’s biggest concern.
Many may remember the House insurance survey, which revealed that Florida insurance companies have moved billions of dollars to affiliate marketing, while also claiming it was broken. Even after multiple hearings of the state’s current and previous insurance regulators, the investigation is still in the air.

“I don’t know if all aspects of that investigation have been completed or not. All I know is that it raises some concerns,” Chief Financial Officer Blaze Ingoglier said.

8 On your part, we’ve taken these lingering concerns to Florida’s new CFO.
“We’re looking at some of these accusations, but we don’t have the statutory authority to open up and start, open these books and look at some of the things. We want to keep it accountable, so we hope that happens when Congress hears some of these stories.

And the law may be round the corner as state lawmakers prepare to return to the Capitol in a few months.

“I’ll take it all up because insurance companies have decided on policy agendas and have given themselves a favor while CEOs of companies have created millions,” state Legislature Anna Escamani said.
State Democrats have questioned the CFO’s efforts on the issue so far.
“I hope we will be able to provide leadership on this issue, but as a senator, Senator Ingoglia has not helped anything on this issue.

But for some insurance experts, hearings on the issue were merely a show.
“If we can encourage Congress, especially the House, to the fact that when insurance companies make or lose money, this insurance commissioner knows where all the pennies in this state go.”

It appears there is an overall driving force to continue investigating these concerns, but we still don’t see what it will look like for the next session.
