Sao Paulo – Brazil’s Supreme Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes ordered X to pay a fine of 8.1 million Brazilian Reys ($1.4 million) for failing to comply with the judicial order, according to a judicial ruling. I did.

The ruling was signed Wednesday and made public by the court on Thursday, with social media platforms registering a profile that stems from Alain dos Santos, an ally of former president Jia Bolsonaro, who was accused of spreading the falsehood. He said he refused to provide the data.

In July 2024, De Moraes ordered both X and META to block and ban accounts and provide data. X said it blocked the account but was unable to deliver the requested information, and the operator did not collect it and claimed that the user “has no point of technical connection with Brazil.”

De Moraes refused to debate and in early August posed a one-day fine of 100,000 Brazilian Reais ($17,500) in Brazil in early August if social media platforms failed to provide data. By October, the total fine for non-compliance had reached 8.1 million Brazilian Leisais.

X appealed but later notified the court that he would pay the fine. In judicial decision Wednesday, Justice ordered the company to pay in full immediately.

The company did not immediately reply to the AP’s request for comment.

Last year, De Moraes ordered the nationwide closure of X after saying De Moraes threatened legal representatives in the country with an arrest, and then the company said it had eliminated all remaining staff in the country. I did. The law in this country requires foreign companies to receive notice of court decisions and promptly take necessary measures, to take prompt action to take place, particularly in the case of X. I’m doing it.

Social media has resurrected a month after complying with an order blocking certain accounts from the platform, naming official legal representatives, and paying fines imposed for not complying with previous court orders I did.

Social media owner Elon Musk and former president Jae Bolsonaro’s enemy, De Moraise, have been sparred for months with free speech, correct explanations and misinformation. Musk called the judge an enemy of freedom of speech and a criminal. However, de Moreise’s decision has been repeatedly supported by his peers, including his national X block.
