FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WFLA) — The teenage body was recovered from the waters in Fort Lauderdale Beach on Friday after police received reports of a swimmer gone missing.
Fort Lauderdale police said the swimmer was reported missing near the 800 block of Seabreeze Boulevard around 4:42pm.
Seeing the FLPD dive team searching for a swimmer, police said they found the teenage body around 8pm
Fort Lauderdale police determined that the cause of the death was a drowsing death.
According to NBC affiliate WESH, parents told reporters that her son was in the water with his basketball teammates when the water was rough, making it difficult to return to the coast.
Reporters said the lifeguard ran off to save the boy, but when he brought them back they realized that one of them was missing.
The teenager’s identity has not been disclosed and there is no further information at this time.
