BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – A Panama City woman was arrested Wednesday after officers allegedly found her 1-month-old twin sons malnourished.

The Bay County Sheriff’s Office reported that on September 30th, deputies responded to a residence regarding a medical emergency.

Upon arrival, officers said they made contact with Haley Smith, 21, who was holding her unresponsive son in her front yard.

Deputies provided medical care to the infant until Bay County Fire Rescue arrived and transported him to a local hospital.

During the investigation, authorities learned that the infant had a twin brother, and both infants were severely malnourished.

Both children were in intensive care at a Gainesville hospital, but have now been released and are recuperating at a family home. They were removed from Smith’s custody and care.

Smith was booked into the Bay County Jail on Wednesday and charged with aggravated child neglect and child neglect.

Her bond is not set in stone.
