GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WFLA) – A “armed, barricade suspect” opened fire Tuesday morning at law enforcement near the University of Florida campus in Gainesville.
The emergency warning sent to UF students and staff said it was fired near the Main UF Personnel Building, near Northwest 9th Avenue and West University Avenue. It is a few blocks away from the main campus area.
The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office said the suspect was fired by a law enforcement officer trying to serve the warrant.
University Avenue has been closed from 8th Avenue to 10th Avenue, and people in the area are evacuated. UF officials asked them to avoid the area and shelter by asking them to do so.
