Parents say that the designation of the white head eagle as a national bird in the United States will add a new focus to the preservation initiative.
Phoenix -“I love Hage Gourus!” I declared Lexy Huning while visiting the Phoenix Zoo. “I was in Washington recently, but I saw some wild.”
She had never seen the American white head nearby for Thea and Apollo to turn her head and see her from a large enclosure.
Fuenning and her friend, Jacquelyn Shihadeh, were from Phoenix, sitting on the white feathers of Eagles on a tree branch, showed their sharp eyes and patient attitude.
“They are very beautiful and big birds. They look wonderful in the sky,” said Huning to Epoch Times.
Shirama is an important national symbol that has been inspired by centuries for centuries. It appears as a large US seal, $ 1 invoice, postal service vehicles and stamps, government buildings, and even gold on the American flag.
Fuenning and Shihadeh have always thought that Bald Eagle is a national bird in the United States, like many Americans.
I never claimed not.
However, on December 23, 2024, the parliament passed the bill that became a domestic bird after 248 years of miscellaneously, was not officially specified.
“I always thought it was a bird of the country. What was it before?” Fuenning asked.
As Benjamin Franklin saw
In January 1784, when a newly independent country built the path, Benjamin Franklin, one of the father of the United States, believed that the white head was inappropriate.
“On my own side, I hope that Shirako is not selected as a representative of our country. He is not honestly making a living,” Franklin wrote.
“You may have seen him sitting on a dead tree near the river. There is a hassle to fish for himself, and he sees the hard -working effort and his diligence. The birds have a fish, and his nests, the nest of his friends and the young people, take it.

Franklin was regarded as a more splendid bird and a true native American native. Franklin wrote that he is a courageous bird, despite a little useless and stupid.
The eagle of Shirato has been praised and has a significant impact as a symbol of the people, but neither Congress nor the U.S. President officially designated it as a domestic bird for more than two centuries.
“Shiratama was a symbol of the freedom and patriotism of our country for a long time,” said Senator Mark Wayne Marine (R-OKLA). “It is only appropriate to specify the white head eagle as a national bird in the United States.”
“D-Minn.) Senator Amy Crob Char (D-MinN) said,” Shirakuto is a symbol of Japan’s freedom and strength. “
She said that Minnesota has one of the largest population of Shirama eagle in Japan.
Cathy Benner, a bird of the American white head eagle Foundation in Alaska, said that Preston Cook, a former member of Minnesota and a former member of the Directors, was an important advocate of Initon.
“Cook has led a lot of this,” said Benner. He is our supporters. So, if he wasn’t involved, this might not have happened. “

“Great comeback”
The Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Law in 1940 and the Birds Treaty of the Migratory Birds will kill, sell, or would harm Eagles, nests, or eggs.
Due to the exposure to pesticide DDT, the population of Shirama eagle decreased sharply in the 1960s. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) banned DDT in 1972.
However, the population of hub dwarfs has rebounded significantly, thanks to several decades of intervention, DDT, and shared conservation efforts.
“The recovery of the white head eagle is one of the most famous successful cases of preservation in history,” said Agency.

Benner said it was a common misunderstanding to regard the once -colonized white head as a domestic bird.
“They are protected as usual,” she said, saying that the number of Alaska’s white head was thousands of people.
“The last number I heard is about 30,000 population.”
She said that they were not only important as a national icon, but also for Alaska’s ecosystem. They eat salmon, bring them to the coast, bring them to the forest, eat what they want, and resemble a bear in the point of “please rot the corpse.”
“All of these nutrients from the salmon will enter the soil,” said Benner. This helps the forest plants. After that, when it rains, all of these nutrients are washed away in the sea and supplied to plankton, which nourishes whales.

“It’s a cycle. This area is well balanced. There is still a bundle here (in Hanez). They are just eating salmon. Now we have a calm winter. They are sticking for a long time, but they come from southeastern Alaska and come out of Canada.
Regarding Franklin’s controversial views of the Shirako eagle, Benner explained that it has a reputation as a “pirate.”
She said that the bird mainly steal fish from Osprey. She believes that Franklin had nothing to do with Hageigre.
“He was right. Oh, Eagles did this, and politicians do the same. It’s pretty interesting when you really dig into it. He didn’t really want a turkey.” Benner said.
Benner said that Shirama Eagles, a peak predator, is a friend for a lifetime and focuses on raising their young people. It also works as an environmental health indicator.
If the ecosystem is well -balanced and the white eagle begins to disappear, she says, “I need to know why.”
THEIA and APOLLO
Brian Maccolei, a bird’s collection manager at Phoenix Zoo, pointed out that the pair of the zoo’s white head is beneficial for good care.
Makoray said during the Epock era, they said they would provide valuable educational opportunities for ordinary people to learn about species.
Birds are also useful as a proof of successful management programs, indicating that the once -producing species, such as Eagle, etc., can be brought back from the extinction crisis.
Apollo male eagle was 17 years old and was rescued after being discovered on the Green Brier River in West Virginia. His shoulders were severely damaged and he could not return to the wild after being treated at the Houston Zoo.
The Phoenix Zoo acquired Apollo in 2019, rescued in Texas, and joined the zoo in 2017, a 21 -year -old white -headed theater. Both are owned by the Fish Wild Born Bureau.
The average life expectancy of Shirama eagle is 20 to 30 years. Makoray hoped that the new official status of birds would increase the possibility of survival.
“I hope that having a white head eagle, which is recognized nationwide as a bird in our country, will motivate the continuation of maintaining and protecting the wildlife of our country.
