Independence Day is around the corner. So, some of the country’s most patriotic traditions will turn your usual peaceful community into a war zone for backyard barbecues, neighborhood parades, and for one man in many neighborhoods.Scott Maxwell (Provided)When I was growing up, July 4th meant putting streamers on bikes and big wheels. Recently, some people believe this means attempting to replicate the British artillery fire that influenced Francis Scott Key during the war of 1812.Nothing screams patriotism like using bamboo bangers and lightning to panic your neighbor’s dog and keep your baby from sleeping.Well, much of Orange County has enough.…
(Hill) – The Trump administration and Florida leaders are moving forward with plans to build detention facilities in remote areas surrounded by the nation’s swamps, retaining undocumented immigrants awaiting deportation. The site, called “Alligator Alcatraz,” can be opened with softside holding units for hundreds of detainees in the coming years through a federally funded partnership and overseeing build-outs and management by the Florida Department of Emergency Management (FDEM). Additional holding units will be added under the contract until next month. The facility is projected to cost around $450 million a year. This comes from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)…

There is a uniqueness that cannot be denied in Japan. The narrow alleyway features a small bar, rooms for just a handful of guests, lined up the street. Here, customers line up with the host for sake, skewers, skewers and proximity that Benjamin Koots might describe as “analog.” “In these little intimate bars, there’s conversation, life and reality, and there’s more face-to-face experience,” he says. There are no new stars, but 13 Orlando restaurants will join the Michelin Guide Rank This is the first Sommelier liquor Sumi pop-up of the Michelin-winning sommelier to win a Michelin award on Thursday (June…
It’s a mark mixed with your calendar moment and final warning as a handful of attractions in central Florida bow immediately. Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando are busy planning alternatives. The details are different levels of tranquility, but there are times when we know what we have known so far and that last visit is too late. The scene from Tom Saw Island in Magic Kingdom in 2024. That glorious morning in March seems eternal with Tallahassee’s Republican leaders launching a 2025 legislative meeting and wide-ranging calls to make Florida more affordable. They put it thicker than usual – envisaging tax cuts, insurance reforms and greater consumer protection. But even after more than 100 days, even after the extended session, lawmakers were unable to realize these so-called priorities. Is someone surprised? This is how Tallahassee works.Florida State Senators have been hired for a long time and are not short of them. For many politicians, it’s simply a part of their DNA. However, other factors explain the achievement gap, ranging…

Mixed messages in Iran’s bombing | June 23rdIt’s never againI read a disappointing article on the Times homepage about the White House’s confused statement about the recent bombing of Iran. On the one hand, I am sure there is no interest in a change of government. Meanwhile, the president himself says it’s okay to remove the Iranian government. Meanwhile, his Secretary of Defense argues that it’s not about that at all. It’s hard to know if they really don’t know what they’re doing or if they think the rest of us can’t see through this. After decades of costly misfortunes…
Florida urged the state Supreme Court to immediately suspend Coral Gables’ attorney Jay Lewis Farrow, accusing him of “causing major public harm” in multiple complaints filed by clients who claimed he was not at work. The Florida emergency suspension petition also accused Farrow of lying to the Supreme Court last year about a “consensus” with Barr while his lawyer pursued more than 12 misconduct complaints from his client.A petition filed last Wednesday states that Farrow “engages in blatantly abusive litigation tactics. He failed to comply with court orders. He filed lawsuits from clients who did not claim or produced minimal work…
Cape Canaveral, Fla. (AP) — India, Poland and Hungary launched their first astronauts on Wednesday for more than 40 years, sending them on civilian flights to the International Space Station. The three countries shared a two-week mission tab. Axiom Space, a Houston company that arranged the contract, has priced tickets at over $65 million per customer. SpaceX’s Falcon Rocket exploded from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center two weeks late due to concerns about a leak at the space station. The top capsules weren’t alive when the country’s first astronauts set up, not just three newcomers heading into space – Peggy Whitson,…
