A year ago, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed the law on the path to compensation for a boy who endured unspeakable torture. For decades, these boys were beaten and raped, with spirits and bodies broken at the state’s infamous reform schools. Others were murdered in taxpayer dimes, their bodies buried under a dirt covering, and reduced to a horrifying archaeological discovery. Those boys stole things. They were true. They broke the law. But at the time, exactly a year ago, society agreed that their crimes did not justify their fate. No matter how indiscreetly these boys committed, they didn’t deserve that…

Jacob Lundy’s childhood included time spent on a woodsy, three-acre lot in Jacksonville, where his mom, Anjalonette Lundy — who taught kindergarten and first grade for more than 40 years — started a catering company to help fund her four kids’ college education. Soul food, mostly, Lundy tells me. The same sides she’d make when he and his older brother would dig a pit at the back of the property and throw a piece of chain-link fence over the top. Ribs and chicken takeout box from Smokey Jay’s BBQ in East Orlando with mac and cheese and collard greens sides.…

By Josh Bork WASHINGTON (AP) – Analysis shows a key group of US employers face a direct cost of $82.3 billion from President Donald Trump’s current tariff plans. An analysis by the JPMorganchase Institute is the first to measure the direct costs caused by import taxes on businesses with annual revenues of between $10 million and $1 billion. This is a category that includes about a third of private sector US workers. These companies rely more on imports from China, India and Thailand than others, and the retail and wholesale sectors are particularly vulnerable to import taxes imposed by the…

Over the past few months, President Donald Trump has been moving back and forth to take steps to ensure that some illegals in Florida remain and not be deported. In June, Trump softened comments about illegal deportees working in the agriculture and hospitality industry. “We must protect the farmers,” he added, “change is coming.” However, after these statements, immigration officers rebutted the president’s comments, saying arrests and tort deportation still occur anywhere in the United States. “There is no safe space for industries that have violent criminals or intentionally attempt to undermine ice efforts,” the immigration officer said. Now, the…

A quick question: What can children be able to read and write for Florida’s future, or what can we be able to warehouse undocumented immigrants at the Everglades camp?A simple answer, I know, but I had to ask. Because both made news last week. I’m going to get politics. Demonizes undocumented immigrants and prostrates Donald Trump before it becomes the new routine for elected Republicans. However, the latest snapshot of Florida student performance is worth far more serious attention. That’s especially true when the person in charge is praising themselves in the face of widespread and deep-rooted failure. The Florida Department…
