By Bernard Condon, Associated Press business writer NEW YORK (AP) – Elon Musk leaves Washington after a brief but disrupted mission in the government, each returning to his numerous businesses, each with its own issues for the billionaires to deal with. Starting with his electric car company Tesla. It is debatable how many masks achieved in his role as President Donald Trump’s main cost cutter, but it is clear that his relationship with right-wing politics has destroyed Tesla’s brand and tank sales. Musk’s social media platform X (formerly Twitter) needs to rebuild its ad-based base. His aerospace company SpaceX looks…

By Christopher Lugerber, Economics writer for the Associated Press WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump’s tariffs have yet to push prices up, but US revenues have been surged, leading US major inflation calculations slowed last month. A report from the Commerce Department on Friday showed that consumer prices rose just 2.1% in April, down from 2.3% in March from the lowest since September, compared to the previous year. Excluding the volatile food and energy categories, core prices rose 2.5% from the previous year, below 2.7% in March. Economists usually track core prices to provide a better reading of where inflation…
I don’t want to lose wrestling fans, very few people have a very enthusiastic look at heroes and enemies. Today’s wrestling supporters love marinating in juicy stories, twisting with Colombo’s acuity and sniffing bulls from miles away. We all need wrestling fans on our proverb team.Still, when Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis visited a WWE event at Tampa’s Jungling Center over anniversary weekend, he appeared to have lost them. Multiple videos capture booming boos from the stands interrupted by the chant “You Suck!” Desantis tried to laugh at it and snap a selfie with people who weren’t actively avoiding his presence. Were…
Alexa st. John In one of the nation’s first illegal death allegations calling for the fossil fuel industry to be accountable for its role in climate change, a Washington woman sues seven oil and gas companies. The lawsuit filed this week in state court said they knew their products had changed the climate, including the fact that businesses contributed to the 2021 heat wave in the Pacific Northwest that killed 65-year-old Juliana Leon and did not warn the public about such risks. June 28, 2021, according to filing, it reached its peak on 108 degrees Fahrenheit Day. Leon had just…
Why Trump’s FEMA remake should worry Floridians | Line, May 22There’s too much debtPresident Donald Trump’s “Big Beautiful Building” passed the House of Representatives (215-214) and is now sitting in the Senate, and the amendment can still curb that damage. The bill is estimated to add trillions of dollars to our deficit over a decade, a fiscal disaster that raises the debt-to-GDP ratio to 125%. It’s pork, which supports corporate subsidies over taxpayers, and is at risk of a dollar devaluation by 2030.As a resident of Plant City, I urge Senators Rick Scott and Ashley Moody to amend this bill.…
Wyatte Grantham-Philips, Associated Press NEW YORK (AP) – Victoria’s Secret has removed a US website and says some in-store services are not available to deal with “security incidents.” On Thursday, a message to customers remained in place of the popular lingerie brand’s regular shopping site, saying that these businesses were suspended “as a precaution.” “Our team is working 24 hours a day to fully restore the operation,” the message read. Ohio-based Victoria’s secrets did not provide many details about a “security incident” or directly check whether it was a cyber attack or a ransomware attack. When asked for more information…
Gov. Ron DeSantis on Thursday rejected a bill aimed at clearing the way some people pursue malpractice lawsuits over the death of their families. DeSantis, who had previously shown to reject the bill, appeared at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Myers and said the proposal could “open a flood gate” for the case. The bill would have repealed a long 1990 law that prevented people over the age of 25 from seeking what is known as “non-economic” damage in cases of medical malpractice, including the death of their parents. Also, under the law, parents cannot seek such damages in…
Northrop Grumman and Firefly Aerospace have named the future medium-rift rockets they plan to build: Eclipse. The two companies have already partnered to support a new version of Northrop Grumman’s Antares Rocket. This has not been flying since 2023, when the rocket first stage used the last supply of Russian-made engines. The new version of the rocket, called the Antares 330, also uses seven Texas-based Firefly’s Miranda Engines in the first phase, which has been redesigned. Firefly’s work on the Antares 330 flows into the design of the larger Eclipse rocket. Northrop Grumman, headquartered in West Falls Church, Virginia, has…
