TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Home purchases across Florida and across the United States are being cancelled at record rates, according to a new Redfin study. The real estate company said 15% of home purchases fell until last month. This is the highest July rate on record. Data showed that of the top five cities with the highest percentage of home purchase cancellations, three are in Florida. Home purchases were most likely to fall in Fort Lauderdale, Jacksonville and Tampa. Walt Disney World is rolling out a new pirate-themed hot spot at Magic Kingdom. The Beak and Barrel, located in Adventureland, is designed as an immersive experience that serves drinks, small plates and a big serving of swashbuckling atmosphere. MIAMI – A federal judge has halted the planned expansion of Florida’s “Wannial Catraz” immigration detention facility and determined that the Everglades’ controversial location violates environmental laws. US District Judge Kathleen Williams ordered staff to stop accepting new detainees within 60 days once detainees move, and begin demolition of temporary fencing, lighting and other infrastructure. The ruling follows suits from environmental groups and the Mikkoski tribe, claiming that the facility poses a threat to wetlands and endangered species of wildlife, including the Fate of the Florida Panthers and the Forest. TALHASSEE – The Florida Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Catholic Bishops has asked Gov. Ron DeSantis to maintain the August 28 execution of Curtis Wyndham and commute to prison without parole. Windom was sentenced to death for the 1992 murders of Johnny Lee, Valerie Davis and Mary Rubin. The Palm Coast man was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for his role in a nationwide cryptocurrency hacking scheme that scam millions of dollars of casualties. U.S. Senior District Judge Harvey E. Schlesinger has declared 20-year-old Noah Michael Urban, who went under aliases such as “King Bob,” “Sosa,” “Elijah,” and “Gustavo Flynn.” Urban was also ordered to confiscate $4.8 million in assets, including cryptocurrency and other assets, and pay $13 million in reparations. MIAMI (AP) — A federal judge on Thursday suspended further expansion of the immigration detention center built in the middle of the Florida Everglades and issued a temporary injunction called the “Alligator Alcatraz.” The injunction of US District Judge Kathleen Williams officially set the temporary suspension ordered two weeks ago as witnesses continued to testify at multi-day hearings to determine whether construction would be over until the final resolution of the case.
