Easter Sundays may still be more than two months away, but Easter season begins less than a month, with Ash Wednesdays coming.

Last year, Ash Wednesday in 2024 fell on Valentine’s Day, Wednesday, February 14th, 2024.

This is their origin when it’s Ash Wednesday, Lent, Good Friday, Easter 2025, and why they change every year.

When is Easter 2025?

This year, Sunday, April 20th, will be in late April.

Rental season, a 40-day period of prayer and fasting leading up to Easter, begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on the Thursday before Easter Sunday.

This year, Ash Wednesday and Lent begin on Wednesday, March 5th. Lent ends on Thursday, April 17th. Good Friday is the following day on Friday, April 18th.

Why do we celebrate Easter with eggs? How is Christian Holy Days Memorialized all over the world?

What is Good Friday?

Good Friday always falls on the Friday just before Easter Sunday, commemorating the day Jesus was crucified.

“For Christians, Good Friday is the key day of the year as it celebrates what we believe is the most important weekend in world history,” says Christian.com.

“Since Jesus was raised in death, Christians have declared Jesus’ cross and resurrection as the critical turning point of all creation.”

What is the origin of the 40 days of Lent?

According to Vatican news, early Christians originally began preparing for Easter in just two days of fasting and repentance.

In 325 AD, Emperor Constantine called for a meeting of church leaders, known as the Council of Nisia. During a month-long meeting, the council decided a series of agreements that guided the church how to observe, teach and practice beliefs about the life of Jesus Christ.

Some historical background: Nico’s Council – and the establishment of the 40-day Lent, which many Christians and Catholics still observe – was when Constantine converted to Christianity in 312 AD, and first It was recorded in the Christian Christmas (December) 13 years after conversion to Christianity. 25, 336 AD).

“By 325, the Council of Nisia has already testified to prepare for 40 days of Easter after Jesus’ “model” who spent 40 days in the desert,” Vatican News says.

“Not to mention other very important 40 or 40-year periods, such as the floods that lasted 40 days and 40 nights, the 40-year stays of the Israelites in the desert, the 40 days Moses fasted. Elijah on the mountain, or Mount Horeb.”

Why do you put ashes on your forehead on ash Wednesday?

According to Vatican News, the origins of Ash Wednesday differ from the reasons people are observing the day now.

Its roots are publicly repenting for serious sins and crimes in the eyes of the church, like in the church and in the apostasy. Of course, some of these crimes, such as murder, are crimes, both within and outside the religious public.

“Wearing a dress of repentance, sprinkling ashes on it, these repentances spread throughout the city, reminding people who have been “abandoned from paradise,” says Vatican News.

“Towards the end of the 11th century, the practice of public penance began to fade, and the practice of imposing ashes on faithful people took its place.”

According to Catholic.com, modern Catholics (and some Christians) participating on Ash Wednesday are ash on their foreheads to remind us of our mortality rate and the temporary nature of secular things. You will receive it.

Why is Easter 2025 so late?

Easter Sundays can sometimes fall in late April as holidays are not tied to a specific date. As a result, all related religious holidays leading up to Easter also fall into the second half of the year.

The Easter date and related holidays also depend on whether you are Eastern Orthodox. The Eastern Orthodox Church uses the Julian Calendar, a solar calendar used by the Roman Empire. According to Old Farmers Almanac, Easter and Easter Orthodox Easter will fall on the same day this year.

“Easter is a ‘movable east feast’ so it does not occur on the same day every year. In the Gregorian calendar, it is always observed from Sunday, March 22nd to April 25th,” says Almanac.

“However, Easter can be observed in Eastern Orthodox Churches from April 4th to May 8th. According to the long-term average, the most unusual Easter date is March 22nd. 23.”

How is the Easter date determined?

Easter dates are changed as they are based on the monthly calendar, as they are similar to the Chinese New Year. According to the old farmer yearbook, Easter Sundays always fall to the first full moon after the spring horse.

“Christmas is fixed on the solar calendar (and near the winter solstice), while Easter is based on the Jewish moon cycle,” says Almanac.

“In Christian religion, the last evening up (the last meal that Jesus shared with the apostles before the crucifixion) was a Passover feast. As Easter is based on the moon (29.5 days). , Easter dates are different.”
