Spring Tea – The Columbiana Women’s Club is planning a spring tea at the clubhouse at 121 N. Main Street in Columbiana on May 17th. The event, hosted by Pat Keylor, features afternoon tea, petite sandwiches, sweet treats and spring decorations. The event is in two seating – 12:30 PM or 2:30 PM space is limited and RSVP is required at 330-692-1304. Costs are $25 per person, cash or cheque only. Pay a check to Columbiana Women’s Club.
Mount Union Concert – Mount Union Raider Steel Band and Percussion Ensemble are planning a spring concert at Spring Performance Hall of the Gees Center for the Performing Arts on April 15th at 7:30pm. The program features works by Johanna Beyer, traditional Brazilian Batkada, Bob Marley, police, Dennis Franklin “Merchant” Williams, Ray Holman, Barnett “Preacher” Henry and Nana Vascanceros. Mount Union Wind Ensemble – Mount Union’s Wind Ensemble Concert will perform at Brush Performance Hall at Giese Center for the Performing Arts, at 7:30pm on April 11th, under the direction of Lori Burse. The concert will include Mount Union students and community members who perform works by Alfred Reed, John Burns Chance, John Williams and Samuel Hazzo. The concert is open to the public for free. Presidential Debate – Mount Union University is planning a fourth in a series of presidential legacy conferences entitled “President Joe Biden: Legacy and Records” on campus from April 10-11. The keynote speaker is Alexander Ward, the Wall Street Journal’s national security reporter, discussing his recent book, “Internationalists: The Battle to Restore American Foreign Policy After Trump.” The two-day meeting is an academic, nonpartisan analysis of key issues from President Biden. All panels and keynotes are open to the public for free, but the space is first served, first served, and limited to participants. The event will also feature another keynote luncheon with former U.S. Congressman Tim Ryan, with a different cost and will be available only to full conference subscribers. No Church Breakfast – Methodist Church and Middle Sandy Presbyterian Church in Damascus will not be introducing monthly community breakfasts this month due to the ongoing kitchen renovations at Damascus Church. The construction process delays have led to delays in completion. Construction is expected to be completed in April, but kitchen inspections and refills will continue. Officials say the comeback is scheduled for May 17th.
Grunge Easter – Mile Branch plans an 8th allergy-free Easter egg hunt at 495 Knox School Road on April 12 at 10:30am. This event is for children with food allergies and other health issues. Children up to the age of 14 are divided into three age groups. Children need to bring their own baskets and bags. Easter Bunny photos are available on camera. The eggs contain small toys, stickers, coins and other items. There are no candies. All children are welcome. Events will retain rain or glow under the roof as needed. I’m dressed for the weather. Participants are encouraged to bring a book that was gently used to restock the small free library next to the grunging building. You need books for adults and children.
