Tampa, Fla. (WFLA) – You’ll need to see other locations on the 4th July weekend with party hosts trying to book Airbnb for your anniversary.
The company said it is deploying “anti-party technology” that uses machine learning to identify potential troublemakers and blocks bookings across the home.
Gas prices go low as millions prepare to travel on holiday weekends: AAA
“The system considers a variety of factors, including the type of listings being booked, the length of stay, the distance to the list from the main location of guests, and whether the booking is last-minute, to determine whether or not a booking should be blocked.”
Last year, the technology prevented around 51,000 people from booking for anniversary and the weekend of July 4th. 7,400 people were blocked from booking in Florida alone.
Airbnb said this would reduce the number of parties involved. Those who are prevented from booking an entire home will be permitted to book other Airbnb accommodations.
“This technology is part of the wide range of tools and policies that Airbnb promotes responsible travel and hosts protect space. “These measures continue to help hosts protect the peace of their homes and neighbors.”
The company said the parties were “very rare” and only 0.08% of Florida bookings last year came from party reports. Since implementing anti-party defenses in 2020, reports of unlicensed parties in Florida have fallen by 46%.
