“A worthy battle to have”: Florida Attorney General targets targets

Tallahassee, Fla. (WFLA) – New job isn’t even a week. The Florida State Board of Trustees, represented by Uthmeier and America First Legal (AFL), filed a class action lawsuit against retailers over the LGBTQ push.

Uthmeier says this is worth the fight.

“We will fight to put targets for these illegal practices financially responsible and bring them and other corporate giants back into business,” Usmeyer said. “We are not afraid of fighting in Florida. We can bet that we will not back down the corporate bullies who are willing to sacrifice profits to indoctrinate their children.”

The lawsuit, particularly in the 2023 Pride Campaign, has failed to disclose risks to investors in its diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiatives, and has resulted in the targeted targets being denied risks. It alleges that it violated the Stock Exchange Act.
“Target urged us to question the biological realities of rainbow sports bras for boys, swimsuits for children with transgender characteristics, and books for children,” Usmeyer said.

Uthmeier calls the campaign catastrophic and argues it is to blame target stock prices for falling.

“This radical campaign has caused Target’s stock to plummet, wiping out its $10 billion market value in just 10 days. Those losses are unable to accept the retirement accounts of Florida teachers and first responders. It’s made it a risk,” Uthmeier said.

But why do political analysts raise questions and target them?

“Why targets are there, there are other companies in the Florida retirement system that have suffered losses,” said Tara Newsom of St. Pete College.

Newsom added that this could be a political theatre.

“It sounds like an echo of a few years ago when I saw the DeSantis administration chasing another company with a different social policy than what the DeSantis administration really agreed to. “The target is Governor DeSantis Is it the new Disney in the second season?
House minority leader Fentris Driskel (D-Tampa) added to the argument that the move is politically motivated.
“We know that the Attorney General is very loyal to this governor, and that’s what he said when he was making a vow that he had promised not to disappoint the governor,” Driskel said. “Well, the Attorney General is supposed to serve the people of Florida’s great states, not the governor, and it’s a shame for me that it’s about to lose.”

Driskel said the move sounds like a re-execution of the same failed tactic from the governor’s administration.

“My constituents, they are worried about the rising costs of property insurance. They are worried about the affordability of housing. People are worried about the price of eggs. We are Get it and see that it’s going up Florida is injecting itself into more culture wars rather than focusing on what Florida asked us to begin with. I’m worried about me.

Even with the pushback, Uthmeier says he will continue to push businesses to make sure his office is going well, not “political theatre.”

News Channel 8 has reached out to the target in response to legal action, but has not responded yet.
This is the first, but the second lawsuit filed by American First Legal. The first lawsuit was filed in August 2023 for securities fraud and remains ongoing.
