The Fort Myers Police Department said Diego, who was then armed with firearms, was about to enter the apartment. According to WBBH, residents inside felt threatened as Diego was knocking on the front door.

Authorities are investigating the incident as a potential “standing on your ground” incident. Florida law states that if a person attempts to “enter an individual into a person’s residence, residence, or occupied vehicle, illegally and by force, they have the right to defend themselves.
