ORLANDO, Fla. (WFLA) – A Nona High School student on the lake has died after he went missing in the lake while kayaking with a group of friends, NBC affiliate Wesh has announced.

Orange County Public Schools confirmed that one of the students at the high school had passed away in a statement from OCPS principal Maria Vazquez.

“It is heartbreaking to see the death of one of the Lake Nona high school students who tragically died on campus on Wednesday night. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time. The sudden death of a young life is an unimaginable loss, and we are committed to providing support to our students and staff. A deep loss.”
