A high school senior was struck and killed while walking to a bus stop in Ocala.

OCALA, Fla. (WFLA) – The Ocala Police Department says an 18-year-old girl was struck and killed by a car while walking to a bus stop Monday morning.

Police first reported the fatal crash in a rural area of ​​Ocala around 7:15 a.m. The incident resulted in the closure of all lanes of Northwest Old Britchton Road as law enforcement conducted an initial investigation and worked to clear the scene.

“We are saddened by this death and offer our support to the family and school community during this difficult time,” police said in a Facebook post.

OPD said the girl was a senior at Forest High School and Marion County Public Schools shared the announcement on its page.

Mother held without bail on suspicion of murdering 6-year-old autistic son

Police have not released additional information about the driver or the circumstances of the accident.

OPD said the fatal crash is still under investigation and more details will be released as they become available.
