A fog of runners (and ponytails) flying on the space coast: Photo of the week

The 2025 Public and Half Marathon, announced by Florida native Fresh, began at Front Street Park in Melbourne. The course was foggy weather, sending thousands of runners to Oak Garry and Melbourne's Causeway. Musicians and Deejays were installed in several locations. There were also 10k and 5k races.

It wasn’t photographer Tim Short’s first race rodeo.

But it was certainly fog and gave birth to this fun and distinctive photograph of the week.

Photographer Tim Short hooked the shot between the 2025 Publix Marathon and the Half Marathon. Thousands of runners participated in the event, hosting smooth running at Front Street Park in Melbourne, kicking off on a course that took participants across Oak Garry and the Causeway in Melbourne.

“For years, marathons, half marathons, cross-country races, marathons such as 5ks, half marathons, 5ks, I don’t know,” said Short, who had been filming with new equipment.

“And when we took off around 5am, it wasn’t fog. Suddenly, as we were driving us north of downtown Melbourne, the fog hit.’It was wild.

Spooky, yes. It also became a great, single runner’s flying ponytail.
