TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Two Florida women have been conned out of more than $160,000 by con artists pretending to be actor Keanu Reeves.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office said the plan began when a woman met someone she believed to be an actor in the words of a gaming app.

They even got voicemails that used AI to sound like Reeves.

A woman named Diane lamented her boyfriend, who died when she met “Reeves.” She said people posing as Reeves allowed them to “borrow” thousands of dollars during their three-year relationship.

The con man argued that Reeves needed money because he had a legal dispute with his manager.

“If you don’t know anyone, don’t send money,” the sheriff’s office said. “Cheaters often target people when they are most vulnerable. Be vigilant and protect yourself.”
