Cape Coral, Fla. (WFLA) – A woman has been arrested after being accused of spraying a dog at Cape Coral Dog Park, according to the Cape Coral Police Department.
At about 8:41am on April 12, officials received multiple reports that a woman in her 60s had sprayed something on her dog at Rotary Park Dog Park.
At the scene, officers spoke to an eyewitness who was walking around a park surrounded by a five-foot fence, spraying other dogs approaching her through the fence.
Officials said he reported that one of the dogs was spraying on their eyes, and spoke to another witness who reported that they began crying and began rubbing their eyes on the dirt. Witnesses said he helped the owner wash the dog’s eyes with a hose.
Another witness told them that if the woman got too close to the fence, she allowed to spray the mace with the mace.
Officers said they confronted 67-year-old Charlene Tedesco and said they sprayed the dog with pepper spray because they were worried that she would attack her.
Officials also reported that Tedesco has made it clear that he will not enter the fenced area of the dog park, but prefers to roam it.
The Cape Coral Police Station reported that there was never a risk of being attacked due to a barrier between the dogs in Tedesco and the dog park, and that she was driving there to take advantage of pepper spray there.
Cape Coral police officers arrested Tedesco and booked her at the Lee County Jail.
They charged her for animal cruelty and issued a trespass warning.
Tedesco is also prohibited from returning to the park.
