MIAMI, Fla. (WFLA) – A Miami man was arrested over the weekend, and detectives say he learned he was abusing his 6-year-old son-in-law in an unusual and violent way.

Zachary Perez, 42, has been charged with aggravated child abuse that caused major physical harm following an investigation into the treatment of his son-in-law, according to a report by NBC 6 South Florida.

Man killed by masked robbers at Lake Placid Motel in a set up involving five people: Sheriff

Detectives at the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said they learned that Perez repeatedly punched the boy in his face.

The six-year-old was made to wear a collar for two days, and investigators said Perez would pull the collar hard enough to drop his step-son back onto the ground.

He is also believed to have kicked the child with his stomach and grabbed a tree branch to hit him.

Perez was taken into custody on Saturday, May 10th. The judge denied his bond during his court appearance the following day.
