Congress’s closed loom
The US Congress is heading for shutdown on March 14th unless a substantial budget plan has been agreed.
Republicans who are concerned about $36 trillion national debt are pushing to curb spending, but Democrats are still pushing Biden-era priorities, such as social infrastructure and social health care.
Two emergency fund transactions have already been passed since the fiscal year began in September, but if the government does not agree to either the permanent spending bill or the third “continuous resolution” by March 14, the government will be shut down.
Disagreements about spending became the norm in the US Congress and often led to closures. The longest was in 2018, during President Donald Trump’s first term, when the government was closed for 35 days.

Trump plans to target the EU with 25% tariffs
President Donald Trump has suggested a 25% import tax on cars coming to the European Union, particularly the US.
He announced this at his first Cabinet meeting on February 28th.

Trump previously denounced the US, particularly the European Union for an unfair advantage over the VAT, and spoke about levelling the arena.
The EU now adds 10% tariffs on every vehicle coming into the US, four times the equivalent of the US equivalent to the vehicle going out.
The EU says it will respond accordingly.

Actor Jean Hackman and his wife were dead
Oscar-winning actor Jean Hackman with a career spanning 60 years was found dead at his home in Santa Fe, New Mexico, along with his wife and one of his dogs.
Hackman, 95, and pianist Betsie Arakawa, 65, were found in separate rooms. The cause of death has not been announced, and the autopsy has found that there were no external trauma.
The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office initially said foul plays were not suspected, but later said it was “superficially suspicious in nature” because it would require further investigation.
The prescription is open, and Arakawa is found on scattered pills and knockover space heaters, suggesting a sudden drop. The Alsatian was found dead in the closet a few feet away, and two other healthy dogs were found.
Hackman, discovered in a small room, also seemed to have suddenly fallen nearby with his cane and sunglasses.
Both showed signs of decomposition, suggesting they had been dead for a while.

Bondi accuses the FBI of withholding Epstein documents
Top US legal officers accused federal prosecutors of withholding thousands of documents related to billionaire sex offender Jeffrey Epstein before its release.
After receiving a 200-page document from the FBI, she later discovered that thousands of documents were missing from sources.
An investigation is underway.
Epstein had been convicted of sexually abusing more than 250 minor girls.
