Gov. Governor Glenn Youngkin also directed local and local prisons to cooperate. His actions follow a similar move by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
On February 27th, Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin issued an executive order directing state police and corrections officers to assist in enforcing federal immigration.
The executive order represents state law enforcement agencies to help President Donald Trump crack down on illegal immigration.
The order directs the Virginia State Police and the Department of Corrections to sign an agreement with the US Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE). The federal representative state police task force is created to help identify and arrest illegal criminal immigrants pose a risk to public safety.
The governor also directed local and local prisons to work with the task force.
During the 2024 presidential campaign trajectory, Trump has pledged to be the largest deportation effort in US history.
Since Trump took office, ICE agents and other federal authorities have been implementing targeted operations across the country.
Vice President JD Vance praised the governor’s move.
Youngkin’s executive order follows similar actions taken by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. Earlier this month, DeSantis signed a sweeping package of immigration laws aimed at implementing Trump’s policies targeting illegal immigration.
Meanwhile, not all states are working together.
The DOJ was targeting the state’s “green light” that allowed New Yorkers to obtain driver’s licenses without proof of legal status. In response, Hochur stated that her condition would not recede.
In California, Gov. Gavin Newsom has approved laws that use taxpayer dollars to enhance the state’s legal defense against Trump administration policies and immigration enforcement.
