“They won’t even tell us,” a member of the European Parliament said of the party once led by Angela Merkel.
Oxon Hill, Maryland – Chilistin Anderson, a member of the European Parliament of Germany’s Alternative Party, said she hopes her right-footed group will end well in the Feb. 23rd German federal election.
But she was paying important attention.
“The AFD comes in a strong second, but they don’t even tell us,” she said of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU).
“It’s not going to change because it can only form a left and green government on them,” she said.
Anderson spoke to the Epoch Times on February 22 at a conservative political action conference outside Washington, a day before the German election.
A recent YouGov survey showed that the AFD had won 145 of the 733 seats in the German parliament. That would be twice the votes than the previous election where they won 10.4%. Recently in 2013, the AFD has won under 5% of the vote and has not reached the threshold for obtaining seats on the property.
Social Democrat Olaf Scholz, the current leader of Germany, has been prime minister since 2021. Polling investigator YouGov predicts that the Social Democrats will win just 16% of the vote.
The outrage over the massive migration, economic weakness, and the current state of foreign policy are among the factors behind the rise of the AFD and the rise of similar parties in Europe. Like many other actors, the AFD has struggled to govern its coalition with other factions.
In France, national assembly is not part of the current government, but is led by Prime Minister François Bailloux, despite the current greatest conditions in the Parliament. The Austrian Liberal Party has similarly struggled to form a governing coalition with other political parties.
Also, AFD has been gaining increasing international attention thanks to 218 million followers and technician Elon Musk who promoted the party on social media platform X.
Anderson questioned the impact of the possible outcome of the February 23rd AFD.
“If elections are no longer changing, are we still living in democracy?” she asked.
She questioned whether CDU could present itself as a force of change compared to the Social Democrats, given the time they had previously held power. CDU Chancellor Angela Merkel served from 2005 to 2021. This was characterized by large immigration from the Middle East, other policies that helped wipe out emission targets and make AFD stand out.
Anderson said during the Epoch era, CDU politicians “I don’t think it’s that different from what we want.”
But there is a key point of divergence, she said. The most important point of claim is the relationship between immigrants and Germany and Russia during the Ukrainian War, and is now the subject of a bilateral meeting between the Trump administration and Russian authorities.
President Donald Trump appeared at the CPAC on February 22, repeatedly called for the Russian-Ukraine war, negotiating with Russia led by President Vladimir Putin and with Ukraine led by President Volodimia Zelensky. We discussed.
“I want you to give us something for all the money we held back,” he said of his demands for Ukraine. “We are looking for rare earths and oil.
Anderson said that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine was “no go”, but the conflict could be traced back to the 2014 Maidan Revolution. . At the time of Janukovic’s leadership, the country withdrew from its association agreement with the EU in late 2013.
“The EU won’t take a no to the answer,” she said.
Anderson also condemned the September 2022 obstruction of the Nordstream natural gas pipeline connecting Russia and Germany.
Russia has fixed criticisms against the US and the UK, but neither party is responsible for the law. Ukrainian officials challenged the report in August 2024 in the Wall Street Journal, which held a small group of Ukrainians responsible.
In September 2024, almost two years after the incident, Skoltz told German media that an investigation into the incident was ongoing.
Russia in January accused the US of trying to thwart its energy pipeline between Türkiye and Russia.
She did not put any pressure on the party responsible, but Anderson described the 2022 Nordstream sabotage as an “act of war” against Germany.
