
Joann, Macys and Jcpenny have announced their nationwide closure after filing for bankruptcy. Some companies have yet to announce which locations will close in 2025.
The announcement last week that Joan Fabric has shut down hundreds of stores rocked the country last week after similar news from Big Lot, Macy’s, Coles, JCPenney and other retailers, among other things.
Fabric Store officials highlighted the Covid-19 pandemic, supply chain issues and the aftermath of inflation as reasons for the struggle over the past five years.
Here are the retailers who announced their store closures in 2025, and if they’re in Florida:
Joanne’s fabric closure

Last week, Joann Fabrics announced that more than half of the location would be closing.
The retailer filed for bankruptcy after securing about $132 million in new funds in March 2024, heading towards $1 billion in debt. The company has chosen to become private again after it was released in 2021.
However, in January, the rash of store closures continued before the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy again, “helping the sales process to maximize the value of its business.”

Macy’s Store is closing
Macy’s announced last month and plans to close 66 “non-go-forward” stores, including seven in Florida.
“The company’s ‘bold new’ is designed to bring the company back to sustainable and profitable sales growth, including closing around 150 unproductive stores in three years,” Macy’s said. said in the announcement.
Macy’s has released 66 locations that are scheduled to close. Seven are in Florida. they are:

jcpenney location closes
JCPenney announced last week that it would close eight locations this year, adding it to the list of more than 200 planned closures.
After filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in May 2020, the chain was acquired in December 2020 by Simon Property Group and Brookfield Asset Management Inc.
The Florida store is not closed.

A big lot is closed

In December, Big Lot announced that it would close all stores. The company has been slowly closing stores across the United States, including dozens of Florida people, over the past few months that filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
Over 400 stores have already been closed. The list of big lot locations in Florida is expected to be handed over to various wholesalers.

Party City Clothing, some openings

Party City filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on December 21st. The company auctions its assets, but if there is no sale, “will begin store sales to settle all retail and wholesale inventory and locations of the Party City Group Company,” according to a submission.
At the time of submission, there were nearly 900 stores in the US and Puerto, including 63 in Florida.
However, the nine franchises, which collectively own 29 Party City stores, will remain open despite hundreds of other closures. It’s not in Florida.
Kohl’s store is closed

Department store retailer chain Call announced the closure of 27 stores by April 2025, detailing the decline in sales.
The Wisconsin-based company said those stores were not doing well. Kohl expects sales in 2024 to decline by 7% to 8% in November 2024. Retailers reported full-year sales in February.
None of the 27 stores are located in Florida. These closures will be in the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah and Virginia.
Walgreens closure

More Walgreen locations are closed or closed, including those in Florida, as part of the company’s plans to close more than 1,000 stores.
Walgreens announced in 2024 that it would close around 1,200 stores across the United States as it struggles with a collapse in consumer spending.
The company plans to close approximately 500 stores in fiscal 2025, which ends in August 2025. 70 stores closed in the first quarter of fiscal year 2025 and ended on November 30, 2024.
Walgreens, located near the centre of Tallahassee Mall, will close as of February 25th. Signs were posted outside the door to let customers know.
