TALHASSEE, Fla. (WFLA) – Governor Desantis announced Friday that Li, during Jeanette Nuñez, will become interim president of Florida International University.
When asked about his appointee, DeSantis said he “did a great job for Florida” and praised her for his involvement in Florida’s success over the past six years.
“I think somehow she was mistakenly reported that she would resign today,” DeSantis said. “That’s not true.”
Nuñez has worked part-time as a professor and advisor at the university since graduating from the facility in 1994.
In response to the announcement, the Florida Democrats issued a statement immediately.
“Again, Republican hypocrisy is unavoidable,” said Nikki Fried, chairman of Florida Democrats.
Fried questioned Nuñez’s ability to lead the university. This “has one of the largest populations of Hispanic students in the county,” she said.
Freed also accused him of using his appointed position to say he would “push his partisan agenda.”
