These big-lot stores in Florida may be open, court documents suggest

(Nexstar) – It’s been about five months since the discount retailer Big Lot was filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Meanwhile, the company closed more than 500 stores and reduced its footprint to less than 900 as of February 2025.

However, recently filed court documents suggest that hundreds of stores could remain open.

Last month, Biglot closed a previously announced sales agreement with Gordon Brothers retail partners. As part of the deal, variety wholesalers will acquire between 200 and 400 big lot stores. It retains the big lot branding and has previously been reported by two distribution centres, Nexstar’s WCMH.

The announcement comes about a month after Big Lots said it was beginning to “close out of business” sales everywhere. Gordon Brothers lists hundreds of store leases for auctions across more than 40 states where Biglots still exist.

Court documents filed Monday show the 200 locations designated by wholesalers of the variety to take over. These locations are intended to operate as biglot stores, but the list is not final and additional locations can be added, a spokesman for Gordon Brothers confirmed to Fast Company . The decision requires court approval and the transition could take time, company officials warned.

According to court filings, if approved, the following locations can continue to operate as large lot stores under various wholesalers.
