Tampa, Fla. (WFLA) – Florida has many options for specialized license plates, with more options being added continuously. However, for the state to produce specialized license plates, each plate must receive 3,000 pre-orders within 24 months.
The Florida Highway Safety and Automobile Division updates its pre-sale figures each week, with two specialist plates close to the 3,000 threshold being produced as of Thursday.

As of January 1st, more than 2.2 million Floridians have purchased specialized license plates for their vehicles, according to FLHSMV.
Which license plates are closer to production?
The Biscayne Bay Specialty license plate is the closest to production from the plates listed available on the FLHSMV website. There are over 2,800 pre-sales, and only about 200 pre-sales are from production.

Proceeds from Biscayne Bay license plates will be sent to the Miami Foundation to support efforts to restore Biscayne Bay.
The IRS warns about “ghost tax preparers”
According to FLHSMV data, the second special license plate approaching production is the Jimmy Buffett Margaritaville license plate. As of Thursday there were around 2,200 pre-sale items, about 800 from production.

Margaritaville’s license plate proceeds go to the Singing for Change Foundation, created by Buffett, to benefit Florida nonprofits supporting hurricanes and other disasters.
Other specialist license plates before sale do not fall below the 2,000 mark, and only one other Miami CF plate is over 1,000.
How to pre-order a specialist license plate
To pre-order a specialist license plate, Floridians must visit the local tax collector’s office. Vouchers in some counties can be pre-ordered online through the tax collector’s office.
