Florida City that stops the selection of schools using the zoning method

Hollywood, Florida, is expected to pass ordinances that restrict where private schools can be opened.

Companies are not allowed to operate in industries and manufacturing areas. They have to establish themselves in a lot standalon building larger than one acres. In addition, they cannot open within 1,000 feet from the bar or smoke shop, but they are allowed to open a smoke shop within 500 feet from the school. In addition, companies are prohibited from opening along major roads.

In a public hearing, the mayor Kevin Biderman claimed that regulations were needed to protect the civil education system.

“By allowing schools in every corner, you are not creating a community, but the community is split,” Biderman said. “You say that you can separate the students from the community school, these students can go to this small school, and these students can go to that small school. It really separates our community. Our community is split.

Biderman also said that in the past decade, a public school system was destroyed for school vouchers, school choices and charter schools.

“It’s a part of what they want to do. They want to destroy our public education system,” said Biderman.

Hollywood is not alone. In November, Margate City has passed a zoning ordinance that requires the high school to be the minimum lot size if the high school is 45 acres.

Daniel Aqua, an organization field director, said that almost 90 % of cities were strictly restricted where private schools were open. Many people are much more flexible about where public schools can open.

“In many cities, private schools are expensive and do not allow them to open anywhere in the city without experiencing multiple hearing of money,” Aqua said. Ta. “They have a zoned private school.”

According to Aqua and the Ordinance, the proposed regulations have a school in which the founders of the potential schools ultimately increase the cost of tuition or establish a school completely. We require a considerable amount of money to open. This situation restricts the education options of Florida’s family.

“This contradiction between the regulations of public schools and the non -public school regulations impaired the state’s goal of providing various educational results to all Florida students, at least at the local level. He has shown a degree of discrimination against the school’s family. “

Many of the school selection movements are seeking members of the state council to support legislation and regulations to reduce the hurdles to open a new school.
