8-9 inches of snow sets record in Florida

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – A winter storm has hit northern Florida, dumping snow and ice on the region, but could it be a record snowfall?

Some areas of the Panhandle, including North Milton, Florida, received 8 to 9 inches of snow, with 9.8 inches of snow falling as of 9:30 Tuesday night, according to the National Weather Service.

“The previous record was 4 inches, so this will be double or more than the old record,” said Max Defender 8 meteorologist Amanda Holley.

According to NOAA, snowfall amounts as of Wednesday are:

Molino, FL, 9.5 inches Century, FL, 9 inches WNW Bellevue, FL, 8 inches Molino, FL, 8 inches Cantonment, FL, 7.8 inches Pensacola Beach, FL, 7.5 inches ESE Beulah, FL, 7 inches ft. Pickens, FL, 6.8 inches WSW Myrtle Grove, FL, 6 inches WNW Molino, FL, 5.5 inches Baker, FL, 8.5 inches Crestview, FL, 5.5 inches Destin, FL, 2.8 inches North Eglin Air Force Base, 1.3 inches N FL Milton, FL, 9.8 inches Pace, FL, 9 inches Milton, FL, 8.8 inches ENE Oriole Beach, Florida, 6 inches

It will take several days to confirm historic snowfall amounts.
