TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Snow plows were out Tuesday night and Wednesday morning clearing roads as record-breaking snow was likely to be declared, a rare sight in the Sunshine State.

“Yes, Florida has snowplows,” said a post by X from the Florida Department of Transportation. “But we also have well-trained and dedicated FDOT snow removal crews working around the clock to clear critical sections of the state highway system and keep them safe to drive on.”

Historic Deep South snow: The science behind it

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said he has more than 10 snow plows ready to respond to the Panhandle in case of a major winter storm. Dozens of trucks were deployed to spray liquid de-icer on roads ahead of the storm.

Portions of Interstate 10 in Escambia and Okaloosa counties remained closed Wednesday as crews worked to clear several inches of snow from the highway. Major bridges, including the Pensacola Bay Bridge, were also closed.
