A fourth-line anchor and faceoff specialist, he proved to be the perfect fit.
After recording nine points (1G, 8A) in 59 games during the regular season, Nosek and his linemates returned to the lineup for the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs and helped turn the tide.
With the Panthers trailing 2-0 to the Toronto Maple Leafs in the second round of the Eastern Conference, Nosek, Jonah Gajovic and AJ Grier were called upon to provide a much-needed boost.
Nosek assisted on Gajovic’s decisive goal in the first game, giving the Panthers a 4-3 lead in the second period and an eventual 5-4 overtime victory in Game 3.
Starting with this game, the Panthers built a record of 12 wins and 4 losses en route to their second consecutive Cup title.
As a testament to Rhyne’s contributions, head coach Paul Maurice gave Nosek, Gajovic and Grier the final shifts in the 5-1 Cup-clinching win over the Edmonton Oilers in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals.
Overall, the Panthers had a 4-1 lead in goals at 5-on-5 when that line was played out throughout the playoffs.
“He was a huge contributor to that run,” teammate Seth Jones said. “When that whole line came in after Game 2 against Toronto, it changed the team. The physical strength of that line changed the dynamic. He made penalty kills, won faceoffs, and in some ways did everything for us.”
From his first game to his 500th, this description sums up Nosek well.
In the midst of his 11th season in the NHL, the 33-year-old veteran has scored 116 points (45 G, 71 A) and boasts a career faceoff winning percentage of 53.7 percent.
Even on the big stage, he recorded 17 points (6G, 11A) in 68 postseason games.
Looking back on everything he’s done, Nosek can’t help but smile.
“It’s exciting and I’m happy with every moment I’ve had so far,” said Nosek, who has played in seven games since returning from offseason surgery. “I want to thank all my teammates and everyone on the team and organization that helped me get to this point.”
