FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. (WFLA) – Seven people were rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard Sunday night after a boat hit a barge.
The Coast Guard said it notified Fort Myers Beach Watch Stander Station that it had loaded a 36-foot vessel and barge ship at about 10pm near Fort Myers Beach to the Sector’s surveillance standard.

Two boat crews from Fort Myers Beach at the station rescued the boat and took it to an emergency medical service representative.
“We commend the prompt response with seamless coordination with local EMS and ensure that all sailors involved have received timely care,” CMDR said. Fredrick Pue, Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg Search and Rescue Mission Coordinator. “Coast Guard Investigators and the FWC are working to determine the cause of Alijon and to verify the details leading up to the incident.”
The crew of a Myersfort beach boat brought the boat back to the station.
The incident is being investigated by the Coast Guard and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Committee.
