Video: Following Charlie Kirk’s death, unity was spurred.
TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The Florida Department of Education sent state educators on Thursday warning them to be held responsible for “silly comments” made online regarding Charlie Kirk’s death.
Florida State Board of Education Anastasios Kamoutsas wrote in a letter dated Thursday, September 11th that social media posts of that nature caught his attention. But he said the posts don’t reflect the “majority of Florida educators.”
“Nottheless, I will conduct a survey of all educators engaged in this sleazy and approved behavior,” his letter said.
MSNBC analyst fired after comments about Charlie Kirk murder
Kirk, a well-known conservative media figure, died Wednesday, September 10th after being shot in the neck while answering questions at an “American Comeback Tour” event. Comments made after the filming have been scrutinized by multiple people, including Matthew Dowd, a contributor to MSNBC who was fired from the network.
Kamoutsas said his letter was intended to remind the district supervisor and its employees that he was “confined to a higher standard as a civil servant.” He added, “The publicly available educators’ personal views may undermine the trust of the students and families they serve.”
The letter also states that disciplinary action could be taken if educators found to have violated ethical guidelines or rules established in Florida’s administrative law. This includes sanctions on educator certificates.
The letter is sent to the district supervisor and is intended to be shared with district employees.
Kamoutsas concluded the letter with one sentence, writing, “Running yourself accordingly.”
