Even though it’s not the election season where voters usually adjust to hear the pros and cons about political candidates, a new report from RadioInk says news/talk remains the most listened genre in the country.
“It’s not all about politics. It’s about consumer news, insurance costs. A storm off the coast is ready to hit the state. This is all why people keep listening to talk radio.”
For top radio formats, news/talk is number one, followed by modern adult country music. For younger viewers, the all-sport format continued to show growth between the ages of 18 and 34.
But the other outlet where Americans listen to news and topics is podcasts.
According to the media research firm, Nielsen and Edison Research Podcasts continue to hold the ground, especially among younger listeners.
Nielsen and Edison said Americans listened to an average of 3 hours and 50 minutes of audio listening on the platform every day in the second quarter of the entire audio listening.
Many news/talk formats have been switched from AM to FM dial, but AM listenership continues to be gained for radio listeners.

Among the ages, age groups listen to the radio more, but now the younger demographic, ages 18-34, is listening longer than the crowds over 35.
Nielsen and Edison also said the streaming service retained its own and did not decline, but did not increase much.
Christian Radio still has good numbers. “
“While radio still enjoys the lead, data continues to emphasize the stability and stickiness of on-demand audio with younger consumers, reinforcing the need for traditional radio brands to adopt a cross-platform strategy that adopts growth in over-the-air products and digital formats,” RadioInc.
