TALLAHASSEE (AP) – An employee at a popular child’s birthday destination wearing the iconic Chuck E. Cheese Mascot Mouse furry mask has been arrested for using a stolen credit card at one of the chain’s Florida restaurants, police said.
“Chuck E, come with me,” a Tallahassee police officer told the suspect.
The arrest occurred Wednesday, according to a possible cause report from police, but bystander photos showed officers leaving the man’s rodent mask removed with grey fur, exaggerated ears and a permanent smile, sitting on a vehicle at the Tallahassee Police Station.
The investigation began when a woman called the police and reported that someone was using her child support visa debit card. The fees for the card were made at smoke shops, grocery stores and Whataburger.
The woman went to the grocery store and followed the suspect by watching surveillance footage from when the card was in use, police records say. She recognized the Chuck E. Cheese man.
When officers arrived at the restaurant, one of them first came in to confirm that the suspect was there. He – and he wasn’t wearing a mask. The suspect “appeared to be extremely nervous, he stared at me with a nervous attitude with wide eyes and shoulders,” the officer later wrote in his supposed cause report.
Officers and another officer soon returned to Chuck E. Cheese, where the suspect was wearing a rodent mask, police records said. The officer asked another employee if the suspect was wearing a mouthsuit.
“She shook her head up and down to show yes,” the officer wrote.
