Tampa, Fla. (WFLA) – To promote community health and provide access to early breast cancer detection, YMCA and AdventHealth have partnered to bring mobile mammography bass to various locations.
A bus is like a wheel clinic and offers the opportunity to get a convenient way to get a screening for breast cancer. Officials said getting screened could save your life.
AdventHealth’s mobile mammography bus makes it easier for people to put their health first.
Through partnership with the YMCA, people can step into the bus and get mammogram screenings in the parking lot.
Each reservation takes 10 minutes.
“We’re supporting our community in early detection of breast cancer, so we’re training here and coming out here, which is very useful for them,” Athena Reid said at the YMCA.
AdventHealth said that by making mammograms accessible, it is trying to ensure that more women prioritize their health and increase the likelihood of early breast cancer detection.
The hospital said one in eight women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year.
Athena Reed with the YMCA said she wanted to do her part by bringing the screening directly to the neighborhood.
“Early detection is best, especially if it’s run in your family and you have history. So we’re trying to reach out to our community and make sure they do this easily,” Reed said.
AdventHealth’s Bus has 3D imaging technology, which said early detection really improves survival rates, reaching almost 100% if found early.
This is not the first time that YMCA and AdventHealth have partnered together. This event is scheduled to be held annually. The bus travels throughout the Tampa Bay area. If you would like to schedule an appointment, please click here.
